Tour Guides and Services in Kuala Lumpur

Most tour guides operating in Kuala Lumpur are licensed and belong to an authorised tour guide association or body.

If this is your first time visiting Kuala Lumpur, it is advisable that you engage the services of a licensed tourist guide. Standard rates apply.

If you feel that you could have been taken for a ride, you may want to contact the various tourism and tour guide organisations here for advice.

But as a rough guide, here is an estimate of what you might be paying:



The above are further subject to the following conditions:

1. Local languages refer to Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin, English, Tamil, and local Chinese dialects.


2. Foreign languages refer to all languages other than those stipulated under the local languages group.


3. Minimum meal allowance of RM 25 for overland assignments if meals are not provided.


4. Accommodation must be provided by hirer/operator. Female or male guides are to be provided rooms, or share rooms with female or male companion respectively.


5. Upon exceeding the hours indicated in the Half Day or Full Day Tours shown above, overtime rates are applicable regardless of whether a full hour is incurred or not.


6. Midnight surcharge of additional 50% on normal guide fee for all assignments or services extended beyond midnight and before 0600hours the next day.


7. Cancellation of overland assignments must be given 3 days’ notice in advance, otherwise a 1-day professional fee will be charged.


8. Cancellation of all other assignments must be given 24 hours notice in advance, otherwise the full assignment fee must be paid.


9. Guides’ Fees are doubled on the following eight (8) Malaysian festive days:

• New Year – Jan 1


• Labour Day – May 1


• Hari Raya Puasa – Day 1 and Day 2


• Chinese Lunar New Year – Day 1 and Day 2


• Deepavali


• Christmas Day - Dec 25
